It is with a heavy heart that the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy and ҹɫֱ²¥app Marines Charity must inform friends and supporters of the Charity that John Thompson MBE BEM sadly passed away on Sunday 14th November.
John was a founding Trustee of the ҹɫֱ²¥app and long-standing Naval Service Benevolent Fund Committee member. His leadership, guidance and encouragement was so critical to establishing the ҹɫֱ²¥app as the principal charity of the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy, which today distributes in excess of £7 million every year to support beneficiaries.
John’s advocacy and support for all those in the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy extends much further back than helping to establish the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy and ҹɫֱ²¥app Marines Charity in 2007. He was involved with the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy Benevolent Trust from 1985, serving both as Vice President and Honorary Treasurer during which time he was instrumental in transforming the former ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy School of Motoring on Tipner Road into Castaway House. Today, the building stands as a proud legacy to John and serves as a melting pot of cooperation and collaboration between a number of different naval charities and organisations meeting the needs of naval beneficiaries and working together to address missed and unmet need.
It is evident that John espoused the values for which the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy is well-renowned throughout his life, evidenced by his well deserved recognitions for services to charity and public life. We will always remain humbled and heartened by the towering contribution John made to the formation and development of the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy and ҹɫֱ²¥app Marines Charity and by his steadfast commitment to support every sailor, marine and ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy family from day one and for every day after.
