Three Organisations Working Together To Support WW2 Navy Veteran During COVID-19 Crisis

Beneficiary, COVID-19

During these unprecedented and difficult times, it is important more than ever that we find ways to come together to help those in need of support.

Through the support they receive from the ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy and ҹɫֱ²¥app Marines Charity (ҹɫֱ²¥app),  have been able to ensure 95-year-old WW2 ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy veteran Bill is safe and feels connected during the COVID-19 crisis. In addition, they have also been able to deliver Bill an essential food package supplied by the ҹɫֱ²¥app and their corporate supporter

Bill Silvester was involved in the D-Day landings and went on to serve in the Special Forces, going on tours right across the globe. He was first referred to ´¡±ô²¹²ú²¹°ùé by SSAFA in France, where Bill was living at the time, as he wanted to return to the UK to be closer to his family.

´¡±ô²¹²ú²¹°ùé support homeless adults, young people, veterans and those with learning disabilities. Through the ҹɫֱ²¥app's ongoing support and funding to the charity, they have set up 22 dedicated ‘Homes for Veterans’ which accommodate over 100 bed spaces for homeless or in need of support.

At the time of Bill’s referral, ´¡±ô²¹²ú²¹°ùé had no vacancies, but they were able to source temporary accommodation with a specialist housing provider for the elderly. Through their outreach services, thanks to funding support from the ҹɫֱ²¥app, they were able to find Bill somewhere permanent to live, as well as register him with medical services, organise and pick up his medication and take him to hospital appointments. Additionally, they helped Bill remain in contact with his family, as well as ensuring he was supported ahead of being able to move closer to them.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown, Bill’s move has been delayed. However, through Alabare’s outreach service, they have been able to offer reassurance and support to Bill through these difficult circumstances.

In addition, the ҹɫֱ²¥app recently joined forces with corporate supporters at ESS Compass Group to deliver 500 essential food packages to local ҹɫֱ²¥app Navy families, young carers and veterans. Through this, ´¡±ô²¹²ú²¹°ùé were also able to drop Bill a box of food essentials, including bread, bourbon biscuits, soup and even Cadbury’s crème eggs.

Through the support they receive from the ҹɫֱ²¥app, ´¡±ô²¹²ú²¹°ùé have been able to ensure Bill is safe and feels supported in these uncertain times.
